In 2003 Jennifer was asked by Kristian Bush, a man she knew from her Atlanta music community, to join a new band being formed called “Sugarland”. The idea was, this was going to be a fun country band that was going to write really good music & be very successful. They began playing out together & winning over audiences. With the combined forces of the band members, they already had a loyal following. Opening slots on tours with the likes of Vonda Shepard & a bus trip loaded with fans to Nashville lead to a record deal with Mercury Records.
After an self-released album & a few live Ep’s, the major label debut album followed in 2005, “Twice the Speed of Life‘. 2006 saw the groups first award, a Best New Artist award from the American Music Awards, one that covered all genres. 2007 was Jennifer’s first Grammy Award win, done so as a collaboration with Bon Jovi on their track “Who Says You Can’t Go Home“. Time rolled on, and like a machine so did Sugarland. After they “Enjoy The Ride” they gave “Love On The Inside“, performed countless live shows “Live On The Inside“, graduated from a 20 minute opening slot on big summer tours, to headlining on their own for the first time with the “CMT: On Tour” package. Grammy Awards followed in 2009 and along they way they picked up several CMT and CMA Awards. The won the CMA for “Vocal Duo Of The Year” 5 times in a row from 2007-2011. A Christmas album followed in 2009 and in 2010 a brand new album was released entitled “The Incredible Machine“. They toured this album for 2 years playing to sold out arenas – One summer before the record was released, & then again the following summer after it’s release.
2012 saw the announcement of Jennifer’s pregnancy, however the Sugarland touring machine didn’t slow down. She toured with the band one final time in the summer of 2012 while pregnant. With no new album to promote, the tour was called “In Your Hands”, the set list being pulled from fan requests & all aspects of social media. Sugarland’s last concert to date was given in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Beach venue September 2, 2012. Jennifer gave birth to her son in December 2012. In between tour dates Jennifer starred as judge and performer on the talent show Duets, along side Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke, and John Legend. Jennifer took her entire team into the show’s finale and onto first place. Proving she has the vocal prowess to cross multiple genres flawlessly.
